His art, which became linked with the S*x Pistols, used a ransom note style that he established at Suburban Press, where phrases appeared to have been cut from newspapers and magazines.

Reid was born in Croydon, a neighbourhood in south London, in January 1947. He then attended Croydon and Wimbledon Art Schools to further his education. He first connected with the S*x Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren in Croydon and started working with the group.
