Elvis Presley’s life is one of breathtaking highs as well as sorrowful lows. Elvis, the most recent biopic depicting the life of the renowned rock and roll musician, has brought his narrative back to the forefront. Many people are aware of the circumstances surrounding his death, despite his young age of 42.
Many people are unaware that his mother also died at a young age, having lived only 46 years. Despite his fame, Elvis was still his mother’s son, which made his mother’s death all the more painful.
How Old Was Elvis When His Mother Died?
Elvis was only 23 years old when Gladys Presley died on August 14, 1958. He was extremely close to his mother, which made her passing all the more heartbreaking.
Elvis’ family did not come from a wealthy background. His mother was a cotton farmer’s daughter who met his father at church. Gladys became pregnant quickly and gave birth on January 8, 1935.
On this day catastrophe would strike the entire family. Gladys would have twin boys, but the first, Jesse Garon Presley, died before birth. Elvis lived, confirming his mother’s expectation that the surviving twin would have the strength of both of them.
As Elvis grew older, the connection between mother and son grew stronger and stronger. Gladys always wanted Elvis by her side, and they were practically inseparable.
Then followed the fame that propelled Elvis to superstardom. While many families would embrace such items for their children, some may feel the other way. While she was proud of what her son had accomplished, it was a difficult situation for her to deal with.
