What Did Yolanda Saldívar Do?
On March 31, 1995, Yolanda Saldívar shot and killed Selena Quintanilla-Pérez at a Days Inn motel in Corpus Christi, Texas, causing global shock. Quintanilla-Pérez died after being shot once in the area surrounding her right shoulder and receiving prompt medical attention. Her sudden death was caused by blood loss and shock, which could not be treated in time for her to receive life-saving care. Even though motel workers tried to help keep Selena alive, nothing could save her.
Yolanda Saldívar was close to Selena Quintanilla-Pérez throughout her career, including forming and administering her fan club. During her time in Selena’s closest circle, she abused thousands of dollars and had a history of unpredictable conduct. Saldívar murdered Selena after she attempted to leave her life. The assassination of Selena was Saldívar’s fourth and final attempt to eliminate the music sensation.
