Snapchat has released its own AI chatbot that uses the latest version of OpenAI’s GPT technology that has been tweaked for the platform. This week, the new feature is being added to Snapchat+ users who have signed up for it.
AI chatbots are all the rage at the moment. Whether it’s about ChatGPT vs. Google Search or Microsoft’s Bing AI chatbot, talking about these talkative friends has become much more popular in the past few weeks. Now, Snapchat wants to add a chatbot called “My AI” to its app, which is very popular.
In a recent interview, Snap’s CEO Evan Spiegel said, “The big idea is that in addition to talking to our friends and family every day, we’re going to talk to AI every day.” He added, “And we’re well positioned to do this as a messaging service.”

Other AI chatbots have been caught having some disturbing conversations, but Snap says it has taught its chatbot to follow the company’s rules for trust and safety. This is done so that it doesn’t get answers that are rude, violent, or have sexually explicit content or that gives its opinion on things like politics and religion.
Even with all the safety measures the company has put in place, the AI chatbot can still be tricked into saying almost anything, the company says. In a blog post, the company said, “Please be aware of its many flaws and sorry in advance!” It also tells users not to say to the AI their darkest secrets or ask it for advice.
Snap says that the new AI friend can suggest birthday gifts for your best friend, plan a hiking trip, offer a recipe for your upcoming date, or even write a haiku about cheese for your “cheese-obsessed” friend. Users can even name their new friends and change your Chat’s background.

Users can leave feedback by pressing and holding on messages from the My AI tool to send in anything strange they come across.
The new business aims to get more people to pay for My AI’s subscription service. Spiegel says that this is just the start of a prominent investment area for Snap because he thinks that people will soon be able to talk to an AI chatbot like it’s a person.
