Lee County Authorities on High Alert as They Hunt for Shooting Suspects

Lee County police are looking for two men who are thought to have shot someone Thursday night near Shannon, sending one person to the hospital.

Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson said that around 9:30 p.m. on March 9, Tupelo police tried to stop a car going north at a high rate of speed. The car didn’t stop until it got to the emergency room at the North Mississippi Medical Center. It was quickly figured out that the car was taking someone who had been shot to the hospital.

The sheriff said that the person had been shot once in the area of the chest and abdomen. There was a wound on the front and back. It is not thought to be dangerous to life.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office was called because the shooting took place in the county. As investigators learned more about what happened, they found out that the shooting happened on Drive 124 near Road 115 in the Shannon area.

When the police went there, they found evidence that the shooting had happened there, so they got a search warrant for the property.

Officers looked in many places on the property to find information and figure out what had happened. Inside the building, evidence was found, and the investigation is still going on.

We know very little about the suspects. “The only thing we know from the victim is that there were two black men trying to steal something,” Johnson said. “And the victim was shot once during this robbery.”

If you know anything about what happened, please call the Lee County Sheriff Department at 662-432-2622 or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Mississippi at 800-773-TIPS (8477).
