Sean “Diddy” Combs is Supposedly Trying to Buy a Majority Interest in BET

Sean Diddy Combs, commonly known as “Diddy,” is a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, having made a name for himself as a rapper, producer, and entrepreneur. In recent years, there have been rumors circulating that Diddy may be considering the acquisition of a majority stake in Black Entertainment Television (BET), one of the most prominent television networks catering to African-American audiences.

If this were to come to fruition, it would represent a significant shift in the media landscape and could potentially lead to new opportunities for diverse voices to be heard in the industry.

Sean “Diddy” Combs has entered the race for a majority share in the BET Media Group, joining industry heavyweights Tyler Perry and Byron Allen. The announcement follows rumors that Paramount Global was considering selling the entertainment company.

As part of his plan to create a Black-owned global media behemoth, Combs, a record executive, and multihyphenate entrepreneur, is “exploring the chance to purchase BET,” according to people close to the music mogul who spoke with the publication.

According to other sources, neither Combs nor any of the aforementioned candidates are currently in negotiations with Paramount discussing the deal or seeking a majority share in the media and entertainment giant. Importantly, Combs has a history with Paramount Global; from 2002 through 2009, he collaborated on three episodes of Making the Band on MTV.

Combs has a big presence in the entertainment industry as well thanks to his Revolt network, which has a current audience of about 80 million homes. BET, however, has a reach of 125 million households. By acquiring BET, Combs would be able to combine the two networks, expanding their respective audiences by presenting a unified front.

The company anticipates maintaining a working connection with the prospective buyer of BET, according to officials familiar with Paramount who spoke to The Hollywood Reporter. Scott Mills is the CEO of BET Media Group, which comprises BET, VH1, BET Studios, and the streaming service BET+.
