Did They Take Hunger Games Off From Netflix?

As it’s the end of the month, some popular entertainment properties will switch between the different streaming platforms to which they have licenses this week. The Hunger Games television series was removed from Netflix in the US today. The billion dollar property that helped Jennifer Lawrence become well-known has moved from the streaming behemoth to Peacock.

Unlike certain series (like the Batman and Superman movies), which can get broken up due to agreements made in the past, since the movies were created and distributed during the streaming video age, they all travel together between platforms.

The series, which is based on Suzanne Collins’ novels, divides Mockingjay into two parts and converts The Hunger Games, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay into four films.

The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay Part 1 and Part 2 — are now on Netflix US!

The dystopian near-future setting of The Hunger Games depicts a society in which the wealth disparity has gotten out of hand. To amuse the idle affluent, the poor are divided into factions and forced to send representatives to engage in a Battle Royale-style war for survival.

The franchise was a big success, and almost immediately after it ended, rumors of a prequel, sequel, or TV series began to circulate. In spite of the fact that none of them had collaborated for nearly ten years, Lionsgate is now developing The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, a prequel to The Hunger Games that will star Rachel Zegler from West Side Story.

Zegler tweeted “listen up….. can y’all grow restfully? are you becoming an individual resting decisively” in May of last year, which quickly caught the attention of fans who noticed that the first letter of each word in her tweet spells out the name of the main character, Lucy Gray Baird, from The Hunger Games author Suzanne Collins’ novel of the same name.

Francis Lawrence, the director, remarked at the time,  “Like everybody, I first saw Rachel Zegler in ‘West Side Story,’ and like everybody, I knew I was watching a star who would command the screen for a generation,” “Lucy Gray is a perfect match for her as an actress: the character is bold, independent, and defiant, but also vulnerable, emotional, and loving. Rachel will make this character unforgettable.”

Release date for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is slated for November 17.
