Local police in Phoenix say they have detained a man in connection with the De@th of a woman discovered last week after being attacked on a hiking route. The Phoenix Police Department tweeted that they had detained a 22-year-old man named Zion Teasley in connection with the De@th of a woman named Lauren Heike.
The Phoenix Police Department is holding a press conference on Friday afternoon to discuss the circumstances of Teasley’s arrest, which occurred on Thursday. CNN has contacted the attorney for Teasley for comment.
“Without provocation or pre-incident contact Lauren was brutally attacked with a bladed object and died due to her injuries,” On Friday, Lt. James Hester of the Phoenix Police Department told a press conference. “I believe Lauren fought off her attacker and could flee, but her injuries were too severe.”
According to Hester, Heike was on the run when Teasley allegedly ambushed her. After the body of 29-year-old Lauren Heike was discovered on a desert trail in northeast Phoenix on April 28, an arrest was made less than a week later. The officers found her De@th early Saturday morning in the 6500 block of East Libby Street.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Heike’s mother praised her daughter, calling her “beautiful inside and out.” “She had such a kind heart, everybody who met her loved her,” Lana Heike said of her friend.
The authorities gathered much video footage and other physical evidence during their investigation.

Because of this, “we were able to develop a forensic profile on our suspect, additional images identifying our suspect, cell tower evidence placing him in the immediate area, and other factors,” Hester said on Friday. Hester claims that Teasley was apprehended after being located at a nearby apartment. According to Hester, the case has not been closed.
