As the writers’ strike moves into its second week, the writers have stopped writing and the cameras have stopped running. This has put some of Hollywood’s biggest projects in limbo. Marvel’s Blade remake and the fifth season of Stranger Things are the latest projects that have been canceled because of the strike.
The Duffer brothers, who made Stranger Things, took to Twitter to express their disappointment, saying, “Writing does not stop when filming begins.” Without their writers and showrunners, the hit TV show has stopped making new episodes. The Blade movie from Marvel has also been stopped, and it won’t be made again until the strike is over.
Live TV shows, including late-night comedy shows, have already stopped airing because of the strike. All of these shows have stopped filming: The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and Jimmy Kimmel Live!

But it doesn’t just affect talk shows and blockbuster flicks. Hollywood could lose up to $2 billion because of the strike, and networks and companies are under pressure to find a way out.

The Writers Guild of America wants its members to get a fair deal, which could cost Hollywood $430 million a year. But this strike isn’t just about money; it’s also about who has power. And the writers have all the power until a fair deal is made.
As long as the strike lasts, HBO’s spin-off of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, and Amazon’s Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power will keep shooting without their writers. But since the strike could cost the industry billions of dollars, it’s clear that Hollywood needs to talk soon, before the strike does damage that can’t be fixed.
