Britney Spears Musical ‘Once Upon a One More Time’ Set to Bid Farewell on Broadway

“Once Upon a One More Time” is ready to make its farewell Broadway appearance. The Britney Spears-inspired jukebox musical, which premiered on June 22 at New York City’s Marquis Theatre, will close on September 3.

“The fairy-tale is coming to an end,” stated the caption on a Monday announcement on the show’s official Instagram. “Final performance September 3 … come party with us one more time!”

“Once Upon a One More Time” is inspired by pop artist Britney Spears’ popular songs, such as “Oops I Did It Again,” “Lucky,” “Circus,” “Toxic,” and, of course, “… Baby One More Time.”

In a statement to Variety on Monday, producers James L. Nederlander and Hunter Arnold said-

We could not be prouder of this beautifully joyous and exhilarating show – which is not only a love letter to Britney’s iconic artistry and singular effervescence, but also a brilliant display of the boundless talent of our cast and creative team.

They continued-

We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to this dream team of collaborators, performers, designers, staff, crew and investors who continue to share our passion and joy for this project. As plans take shape for the show’s future life around the globe, we’re excited to share more news soon!

The musical, billed as the “ultimate revisionist fairytale,” has an original screenplay by Jon Hartmere and is directed and choreographed by Keone and Mari Madrid, with David Leveaux serving as creative consultant.

According to the synopsis-

When Cinderella, Snow White and other storybook heroines gather for book club, they always discuss the same book, Grimms’ Fairy Tales — because as far as they know, it’s the only book that’s ever been written. That is, until a rogue fairy godmother drops The Feminine Mystique into their corseted laps. From now on, ‘happily ever after’ will never be the same.

Briga Heelan plays Cinderella, Justin Guarini from American Idol plays Prince Charming, Aisha Jackson plays Snow White, Jennifer Simard plays Stepmother, Adam Godley plays the Narrator, and Brooke Dillman plays the O.F.G. (Original Fairy Godmother).

Spears previously provided her blessing to the show. She told Playbill-

I’m so excited to have a musical with my songs—especially one that takes place in such a magical world filled with characters that I grew up on, who I love and adore. This is a dream come true for me!

Spears extended her support for people behind the scenes in a social media message on the first day of the production.
