Sabine Wren is a lively and complex character in the vast Star Wars world. Sabine is a Mandalorian warrior with a fascinating backstory and a strong will.
She is a unique mix of artistic ability and fighting skills. She was first seen in the animated series “Star Wars Rebels,” and during the time of the Galactic Empire, she navigates a dangerous world.
Sabine’s coloured Mandalorian armour and her skills as a graffiti artist and an expert with explosives give her a mysterious look. Sabine’s journey as a critical member of the Ghost crew includes both personal growth and a vital role in the fight against tyranny by the Rebel Alliance.
Who is Sabine Wren?
In the early days of the Galactic Empire’s opposition, Sabine Wren was a human woman Mandalorian warrior and revolutionary commander.
A key symbol for Clan Wren and the desire to liberate her people’s homeworld of Mandalore from the control of the Empire, her artistic prowess during the rebellion inspired the Alliance to Restore the Republic’s logo. She also claimed ownership of the legendary Darksaber, an ancient Mandalorian weapon.
Wren attended the Mandalore Imperial Academy as a cadet before turning renegade. She created weapons she thought would be used for peace, but they were used against her family and her people.
Wren left Mandalore out of shame and was denounced as a traitor by the Empire and her mother, Ursa Wren, who was the head of the clan. Before Captain Hera Syndulla and the Jedi Kanan Jarrus asked Wren to join their rebel crew on board the spaceship Ghost, Wren worked as a bounty hunter with her companion Ketsu Onyo.
Wren’s creations served as a unifying force for the crew while they battled the Empire. Wren’s writings continued to serve as an inspiration for the growing revolt, which they joined. After Lothal was freed, Ahsoka Tano, a former Jedi, appointed Wren as her pupil.
However, the two had split up by the time of the collapse of the Empire, and Sabine moved into Bridger’s old hiding place, the LothalNet comm tower E-272. When Tano rejoined Wren in 9 ABY, they started looking for their companion, Ezra, who had vanished.
What else makes Sabine Wren so unique?
Sabine was a graffiti artist in addition to being a Mandalorian warrior. She “signed” all of her work with a Starbird, a piece of graffiti art that would eventually become a symbol for the Rebellion. She joined the Ghost crew, also known as the Spectres, and due to her unique abilities, she became one of the first known rebels against the Empire.

Why is Sabine Wren So Important to the Ahsoka Series on Disney+?
Ahsoka will effectively begin where Rebels left off, with Tano enlisting Sabine Wren’s assistance in her search for Grand Admiral Thrawn and Ezra Bridger, who vanished during the Rebel’s season finale.
Ahsoka understands that Wren is one of the few individuals who knows Bridger better than anyone else, and she is motivated to find him because of this. Additionally, Sabine had personal experience combating Grand Admiral Thrawn, which could be helpful whenever he is located.
Additionally, Kanan and Ezra taught Sabine Wren how to use the Darksaber, a Jedi and Mandalorian lightsaber. She delivered it to Bo-Katan Kryze during her “reign,” although she did so inadvertently because it must be obtained through combat.
Despite her initial reluctance to use the Darksaber, she freed her family from Gar Saxon’s rule and claimed the weapon after defeating the Mandalorian Imperial leader.
How Did Sabine Wren Find the Darksaber?
Before Ahsoka, one of the six primary characters in Star Wars: Rebels, Sabine Wren, was a founding member of the Rebellion and was voiced by actress Tiya Sircar.
She and her motley group battled a variety of foes, including Stormtroopers, ISB spies, Inquisitors, and their ultimate adversary, the crafty Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen, reprising his role for Ahsoka), as they journeyed across the galaxy, toppling the Empire and liberating subjugated planets.
Sabine, a master in explosives and a fan of vibrant art, discovered the Darksaber on Darth Maul’s (Sam Witwer) home planet of Dathomir. Knowing the Darksaber’s cultural significance and that Maul had used it to govern Mandalore temporarily, Sabine was a loyal and devoted Mandalorian.
A period known as “the Siege of Mandalore” and featured in Season 7 of The Clone Wars, in which Bo-Katan Kryze and Ahsoka Tano overthrew Maul. At the same time, in Sabine’s time, Imperial collaborators dominated her land and oppressed her people.
Even though she had misgivings about taking on all the responsibilities the Darksaber meant, Sabine managed to control the sword long enough to save her family’s lives and bring Mandalore’s divided factions together to fight the Empire.
