Remco Evenepoel Leads the Pack for Season 2023 in Argentina

The 2023 seasons of Soudal-QuickStep stars Remco Evenepoel and Julian Alaphilippe have both been set. Evenepoel, the current holder of the rainbow jersey, will begin his season at the Vuelta a San Juan, while Alaphilippe, the former world champion, will begin his season in his home country of France toward the end of February.

After winning Liège-Bastogne-Liège and the Vuelta an Espaa this year, Evenepoel’s Belgian team announced that he would begin the 2020 season by defending his title in the same race he won in 2019.

The Vuelta a San Juan will take place from January 22-29, 2019, marking the return of the race after a two-year hiatus. Meanwhile, Alaphilippe will kick off his season at the Faun-Ardèche Classic on February 25 and the Drôme Classic on February 26.

These two one-day races have been a staple of his opening weekends in two of the past three years. Evenepoel, who in 2020 won the race after dominating the race’s midpoint time trial, expressed his delight at returning to San Juan for another competition.

“It was my first race as a professional in 2019, and I couldn’t be happier to kick off the year in Argentina, where I have so many fond memories of racing. I can’t wait to show off my new Soudal-QuickStep world champion jersey in a couple of weeks and meet as many of those incredible fans as possible on the road.

A lot of other starters are going to Argentina in addition to Evenepoel next month. In 2019, Sam Bennett (Bora-Hansgrohe) will defend his closing-stage victory. Filippo Ganna, the current holder of the World Hour Record (Ineos Grenadiers), will also be performing at San Juan.

The Italian competed in the event in 2017 and 2018, and he will return in 2020. In 2017, he won the youth classification and placed second overall. Peter Sagan (TotalEnergies), who will also be participating in the 2019 and 2020 editions, will also be racing.
