Who is Ashton Torgerson?
Medford, Oregon native Ashton Torgerson, 16, is an aspiring race car driver. This young driver has been on the road for ten years and has already won numerous competitions. At age 4, he began racing go-karts, and he eventually moved up to dirt racing.
Once he turned 11, he moved on from cage carts to 600 micro sprints and small monster trucks. Ashton followed in his older brother Austin‘s footsteps by making his full-size monster truck debut at the age of 14. They both now prefer midget car racing, in which they use tiny engines that have a disproportionately high power-to-weight ratio.
What Happened to Ashton Torgerson?
On January 11, 2023, Ashton went to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to take part in the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals. While fighting for a corner with another driver in his debut indoor midget car race, he tragically crashed on lap 11.
After a spectacular crash, the teen’s automobile collided with a wall and flipped many times, throwing his body clear of the wreckage. When they arrived, paramedics transported the rally driver to the hospital, where he was later declared dead. Immediately prior to the crash, Ashton had moved up to sixth place.
What has been Said Since the Accident?
Before he was sent to the hospital, Chili Bowl Nationals officials stated that Torgerson was “awake and conversing” with them. Later, the Torgerson family updated followers who had seen the crash to let them know that Torgerson was okay.
On the joint Twitter account Ashton and Austin share, there was a tweet that read: “Cleared the return, neck exams, CT scan pending… “He immediately inquired as to his current location. Having people like you on their side means the world to Ashton and his loved ones. He was taken for additional testing, the results of which showed that he has sensations in his hands and feet.
