Sgt. Amar Gandhi of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said that one of their deputies heard the crash and found the suspect trying to leave the scene. Gandhi says that the deputy caught him while he was trying to steal another car nearby.
Gandhi said that the sheriff’s office had heard about a purse theft before the crash. The suspect in the Florin Road crash had tried to steal a woman’s car keys at her home near French and Gerber roads in Sacramento, but she was able to fight him off.
Gandhi says that the man, who was driving the Toyota RAV4 when it crashed, then stole another car near Billfish Way. In a news release, CHP said the man stole the Toyota at 10 a.m. by threatening the driver with a knife.
