Travis Pastrana was racing for a spot in the top five when Aric Almirola hit him hard. This sent the No. 67 Toyota Camry TRD spinning to the inside of the track, where he hit Kyle Larson in the right rear.
Larson, who started on the outside of the front row, collided head-on with the outside wall, wrecking his No. 5 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro and collecting several other vehicles, including those of Ryan Blaney, Brad Keselowski, and Chris Buescher.
