The songwriter was discovered “dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound” when police and the Nashville Fire Department arrived at the scene, according to a statement.

The day before he passed away, Jacobs celebrated a professional accomplishment and uploaded a photo announcing Lee Brice’s Hey World had achieved platinum certification.

This was put together by an incredible group of people with extraordinary talent… I’m incredibly honored to have contributed in whatever way… Thank you Jesus, he wrote as he captioned the poignant scene. According to Music City Hitmakers, Jacobs moved from Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Nashville in 2000.

On January 1, 2011, Pickler and Jacobs exchanged vows in a secret ceremony. They don’t have any kids together. On June 15, 2010, Jacobs proposed to the pair, who had been dating since 2008, when they were on a Florida beach.
