The Pokémon Company announced on Monday’s Pokémon Presents livestream that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will get a full expansion called The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero. Don’t get too excited, though: It won’t be out until the end of the year.
The DLC will be split into two parts: The Teal Mask, which will come out on Nintendo Switch in the fall of 2023, and The Indigo Disk, which will come out in the winter of 2023.
A news release from The Pokémon Company says that the Teal Mask will take players to a mountainous area called Kitakami. The Indigo Disk, on the other hand, takes place mostly at Blueberry Academy, which is “a sister school” to the school that acts as a base of operations in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
Five Pokémon that seem to be legendary have been added. Ogerpon will be on the cover of The Teal Mask and Terapagos will be on the cover of The Indigo Disk. Okidogi, Munkidori, and Fezandipiti will also be in The Teal Mask.

Before you can start The Teal Mask, you must have played Scarlet and Violet’s main story for a few hours and reached the Treasure Hunt chapter. You must have finished the main campaign to get The Indigo Disk.
Pokémon games have always been about doing things over and over again. Pokémon Yellow came after Pokémon Red and Blue, and Pokémon Gold and Silver came after Pokémon Yellow. The idea of “iterating” turned into real sequels, like Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon, and Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon White 2.
For Pokémon Sword and Shield, which came out in 2019 and was the first mainline game for Nintendo Switch, GameFreak scrapped the idea of making more games and instead added two expansions: The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra.
Both The Isle of Armor and The Crown Tundra attracted the kind of small problems that end up becoming a Whole Thing. Pokémon Sword and Shield didn’t come out with every Pokémon in the Pokédex. With each expansion, the Pokédex grew quite a bit, which made many fans feel like they had to pay to win.

Even when Pokémon Scarlet and Violet came out in November 2022, they didn’t have every Pokémon. Instead, they only had about 400 of them. The Pokémon Company says that between the two expansions, 230 more Pokémon will be added to the game. They did not say which ones.
