The relationship between Halle Bailey and DDG is getting a lot of attention. DDG (full name: Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr.) who was originally linked to Halle in January 2022 when they were photographed at Usher’s Las Vegas residency together, confirmed their relationship in March of that year with a sweet birthday tribute to Halle on Instagram.
They have made a few public appearances together since then, including the 2023 Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty, where they could be seen walking the red carpet with wide grins.
Both have praised one other in interviews and have shown public support for one another.
“I’m very proud of her. And I’m just happy to see it,” DDG says of Bailey’s upcoming role as Ariel in The Little Mermaid. “I feel like sometimes I’m even more excited than anybody else. Just seeing it and seeing everything that she dreamed of coming to life, it’s really dope.”

DDG Graduated at the Top of His Class
DDG is a Pontiac, Michigan native and International Tech Academy valedictorian. His 2019 debut album, Valedictorian, was named after the prestigious award.
“[Academics] are very important, because I was really into school. That’s what a lot of people don’t realize,” he told BET.com in 2019. “Valedictorian is just about being super competitive and being at the top at all times. It displays my competitiveness. I want to be valedictorian of everything — definitely of the rap game.”
DDG attended Central Michigan University after high school but dropped out to focus on his music career.

DDG, like Halle and Chloe, was launched into fame thanks to the video-sharing website. In 2014, he started posting videos online, where he shared his songs and vlogs on YouTube.
“I’m in a space now where I want people to get rid of the stigma that I’m a YouTuber,” DDG says of his career as a rapper. “I’m really just tryna shake that image and that stigma. Even though I am a YouTuber, I feel like it automatically comes with people not wanting to press play on the music or believing in the music. Or being harder on it. People are harder on me than other artists.”

DDG Started His Own Recording Company
In 2020, after DDG had already released two albums on Epic Records, he launched his record label, Zooted Music.
Zooted Music “scouts, develops, and grows artists using its tremendous leverage in the digital and music space and produces culturally relevant, super talented artists,” according to the label’s website.
He and Halle Bailey First Met on Social Media
In an interview for the September/October 2022 issue of Essence, Halle said that she had been a fan of the rapper and YouTuber DDG for “years” before he slid into her direct messages.
“I grew up being on YouTube and would always see the young Black creators and was constantly inspired by them. He was one of them,” Halle told the magazine. “I completely forgot about him. But then I saw that he was dropping music, and I really gravitated toward this one song. Coincidentally he messaged me — and the rest is history.”
DDG and Halle Bailey’s Relationship Was Made Public in March 2022
Halle and DDG, who were first linked together in January 2022, made it Instagram official in March 2022 when the rapper shared a birthday message with the Chloe x Halle singer.
They first walked the red carpet together as a couple in June 2022 at the BET Awards. Halle partially discussed her DDG diagnosis in an August 2014 Essence cover story. Halle answered “yes” when asked if she has feelings for the rapper “Yes. For sure I am .”
Since then, they have made multiple public appearances together, such as at the 2022 WACO Wearable Art Gala, the 2023 Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty in March, and the 2023 Milan Fashion Week front row.

The couple has not only displayed their affection for one another on the red carpet, but also on television. Halle and DDG’s passionate music video for “If I Want You” was released in August 2022. The couple can be seen passionately kissing throughout the film.
