Have you seen the classic movie Beetlejuice from 1988? It’s time for the show to begin, as production has begun on a sequel and Jenna Ortega is reportedly in talks to star.
Several sources have confirmed that the 20-year-old actor is in talks to play Lydia Deetz, Winona Ryder’s character in the original film.
Brad Pitt’s production company joined the long-gestating Tim Burton sequel last year, but the project had been in development for years prior to that.
So, here’s the latest on Beetlejuice 2 and Jenna‘s speculated part in it.
Is Beetlejuice 2 Confirmed?
Yes! Although Winona Ryder, Micheal Keaton, and Tim Burton have been talking about a sequel for years, it wasn’t until February 2018 that the project was given the green light. According to Deadline, Warner Bros. and Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment are producing the film.
The plot of the original 1988 Beetlejuice film centers on the deceased Adam (Alec Baldwin) and Barbara (Geena Davis), who hire the exorcist Beetlejuice to frighten away the family that has moved into their former home (Michael Keaton).
The legendary Tim Burton directed this film, which also had an appearance by Winona Ryder as the gloomy young Lydia Deetz.

When Does Beetlejuice 2 Start Filming?
After the original claims that Beetlejuice 2 might begin filming, we now have an estimated start date. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros plans to begin shooting later this summer, maybe in late May or early June 2023. With the premiere only a few months away, it appears like pre-production will be done fast, with the casting process likely wrapping up by the end of April.
Does Beetlejuice 2 Have a Release Date?
In short, we have no idea. Warner Bros has not announced a release date or time frame for the film because it is still in the early stages of production. If the movie does indeed begin shooting this summer, we can make an educated guess as to when it might hit theaters.
Production might begin in the summer of 2023, which would mean post-production would begin in the fall, putting the release date in the autumn of 2024. It’s not completely out of the question that Warner Bros would aim to release Beetlejuice 2 around Halloween, given the franchise’s association with macabre imagery and mood.
Who is the Cast of Beetlejuice 2?
The film’s namesake ghostly rascal, played by Michael Keaton, is set to make a return appearance. Of course, Keaton has collaborated with Burton multiple times over the course of his career, beginning with his role as Burton’s Batman the year after the release of the original Beetlejuice. After his unexpected cameo as Batman in The Flash, Michael Keaton will be playing a second Tim Burton movie character in Beetlejuice 2 (2023).
Jenna Ortega, who shot to fame after playing the lead in Tim Burton’s smash Netflix series “Wednesday,” has also been rumored to be joining the film’s cast. Ortega’s resume isn’t limited to the reboot of The Addams Family; he also contributed to the recent success of the Scream series.
Ortega has not yet been formally cast, but she is reportedly being considered for the role of Lydia’s daughter, suggesting that this film may serve as a symbolic “passing of the torch.”
