“Positive Charge” is a song by the American rock band Gaslight Anthem, which is known for its unique mix of punk rock and country rock. The song came out as a B-side to their 2012 single “45,” and it shows how good the band is at making catchy, upbeat rock songs.
“Positive Charge” shows off the band’s high-energy sound and their ability to write songs that fans love. It has driving guitar riffs, pounding drums, and the raspy singing that lead singer Brian Fallon is known for. In this piece, we’ll look at the song in more depth and talk about its themes and lyrics.

Positive Charge by Gaslight Anthem
The Gaslight Anthem have released their first new music in almost a decade, “Positive Charge,” as a single. Check out the music below.
The melodies of vocalist Brian Fallon carry “Positive Charge” to a lofty height, while its open lyrics strike with a sense of intimacy. “Positive Charge” is grounded by a beefy, guitar-driven rhythm bed. The song begins, “‘Where did you go?’/ I would say that to myself often/ Like I was dressing up for a coffin/ To lie down in,” and when it reaches its peak, the refrain “I need a spark/ I need a positive charge/ Plug it into my veins/ Make me love this life again” echoes with reviving energy.
In a statement, Fallon said,
“Positive Charge’ started as a message of delight to ourselves and to our audience. “The main theme is about looking back at the things you’ve been through and feeling like you want to move forward with an open heart toward the future, believing that the best years are yet to come for any of us and that the good we have is valuable.”
The single, which is also the first release on Gaslight Anthem’s own Rich Mahogany Recordings label and is available through Thirty Tigers, is their first new music since 2014’s Get Hurt. The band not only resumed recording but also embarked on a reunion tour last year and has now revealed new dates for their continuing 2023 tour. See their whole schedule of forthcoming stops here.
