On Monday, a man was arrested for allegedly opening fire inside an Atlanta hospital, k!lling one person and injuring four more. Deion Patterson, 24, was named the main suspect earlier in the day. On Wednesday afternoon, a male matching his description was taken into custody at a condo complex in Cobb County.
On Wednesday, as CNN reported, Mr. Patterson and his mother visited the building for a medical visit. Mr. Patterson had recently been discharged from the Coast Guard.
According to Atlanta Police Department Chief Darin Schierbaum, the suspect became enraged in the medical center’s waiting area and opened fire, striking five women and k!lling one.
The deceased woman was 39, Chief Schierbaum stated early Wednesday, and the ages of the four injured women are 25, 39, 56, and 71.
Police released an image of Mr. Patterson, who was later identified as a Black male wearing a grey sweatshirt, black jeans, grey and white sneakers, a white medical mask, and a tan tactical bag over his midsection.

Police captured the man on Wednesday night. Police could not locate him for hours but eventually heard him via the barking of dogs.
According to reports in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, residents of a condo complex in Cobb County said that Christy Colwell informed police authorities of a hidden pool and washhouse in the woods.
“I thought that would be a great place for someone to hide out until dark,” Ms. Colwell told the paper. Ten seconds later, officers returned and instructed us to take cover on the grass; shortly after that, a convoy of thirty patrol cars sped in our direction.

Police said Wednesday that high-tech surveillance equipment also played a “huge role” in locating and apprehending the shooter. A license plate number from a car the suspect is suspected of stealing reportedly provided authorities with a significant break in the case.
Cobb County Police Chief Stuart Vanhoozer remarked at a press conference on Wednesday, “Those tools are what got us the clues we needed to make this successful.”

According to the police spokesman, authorities conducted many searches, including at a construction site, while gathering intelligence.
Mr. VanHoozer stated that an undercover cop eventually confronted the culprit, allowing for the swift and painless apprehension of the fugitive. The Atlanta Police Department published Mr. Patterson’s booking photo from an earlier arrest.
According to 11Alive’s reporting, the Coast Guard veteran was previously arrested in Henry County for marijuana possession.

Mr. Patterson’s mother told The Daily Beast that the VA had given her son medication that impaired his discernment. “The damn VA gave him some messed up medication. And all he wanted was an Ativan,” his mother, Minyone Patterson, told The Daily Beast.
According to CNN, Mr. Patterson served in the United States Coast Guard. The Coast Guard said Mr. Patterson “entered the Coast Guard in July 2018 and last served as an Electrician’s Mate Second Class. He was discharged from active duty in January 2023.”
“Our deepest sympathies are with the victims and their families,” the statement said.
According to Fox News, Crime Stoppers is offering a $10,000 prize for information that leads to Mr. Patterson’s identification and arrest.
