Carlee Russell’s ex-boyfriend described himself as “blindsided” and “disgusted” by her lying about being kidnapped while assisting a toddler on an Alabama highway.

Carlee’s actions created hurt, confusion, and dishonesty. I was made aware of the false narrative after coming to the defense of my ex Carlee Russell.

He and his “family’s nature was to react in love and genuine concern,” he wrote, adding that they are “disgusted from the outcome of this entire situation” and that he was “blindsided with Carlee’s actions.”
Although the investigation into the complex hoax is still underway, Simmons stated that his family has found “closure” after the 25-year-old nursing student came clean and apologized for her conduct.
“Thank you to all my family, friends, and the nation for support through this,” he added. “The severity in this matter has not been overlooked, and I deeply respect the genuine support shared during this situation.”
Russell’s attorney, Emory Anthony, stated in a statement given by Hoover Police Chief Nicholas Derzis on Monday, July 24-
There was no kidnapping on July 13. My client did not see a baby and did not leave the Hoover area, she did not have an accomplice, she was not in a hotel or was with anyone while she was missing.
Anthony wrote-
My client did not have help in this incident, that this was a single act done by herself. My client was not with anyone or any hotel with anyone from the time she was missing. My client apologizes for her actions to this community, the volunteers who were searching for her, to the Hoover Police Department and other agencies as well as to her friends and family
Russell went missing on the night of July 13, shortly after calling 911 to report seeing a toddler in a T-shirt and diaper roaming barefoot along dangerous Interstate 459.
She vowed to stay at the spot, but she was nowhere to be located when cops came and discovered her red Mercedes-Benz, which included her smartphone and wig.

Russell reappeared two days later at her parents’ house, claiming she had been kidnapped and held captive. She was escorted to the hospital and agreed to a police interrogation before withdrawing from the investigation.
She vowed to stay but was nowhere to be found when cops arrived and discovered her red Mercedes-Benz, complete with her smartphone and wig.
Russell arrived at her parents’ house two days later, alleging she had been kidnapped and held captive. Before withdrawing from the probe, she was led to the hospital and agreed to a police interrogation.
“Think about her mental health. She doesn’t deserve that. She doesn’t. Nobody deserves to be cyberbullied,” he stressed.
On Monday, Russell’s mother, Talitha Robinson-Russell, also told the New York Times that “now is not a good time” to discuss the scandal.
She stated on NBC’s “Today” show that her daughter “fought for her life” to escape her alleged abductor.
So far, no criminal charges have been filed against Russell, and Derzis stated on Monday that her parents are not being charged in connection with the deception.
Anthony, Russell’s attorney, said he had a “great meeting” with police on Tuesday about assisting her in “getting to the end game” while “dealing with her issues.”
“We tried to identify some things about where we go from here,” he explained to CBS 42. “There are responsibilities that we need to take care of.”
