Howie Mandel has no beef with America’s Got Talent viewers after being booed during the show’s September 5 episode.
After clicking his red X button during a performance by the family band Parent Jam, the comic was subjected to some mockery. Despite public backlash, the 67-year-old remains steadfast in his condemnation of the contestants.
Mandel told Entertainment Tonight backstage–
I feel like I have the best job in the world. They don’t want anything of me but just to show up and say what I think. That’s all I do. There’s no skill involved in what I’m doing on this show. This is the only job I’ve had in my life where they said, ‘Just show up and be you.’ So, you know, listen, I know I got booed. I got booed, but I thought I found a great opportunity for investment!
Mandel emphasized that he saw the concept as a profitable countrywide business franchise, not a $1 million Las Vegas performance while expressing his criticisms with Parent Jam, an L.A.-based hip-hop group formed for kids and parents to spend time dancing together.
“Parent Jam is gonna be the new My Gym, the new mommy-and-me class,” he told the outlet again. “I would invest in it. I think it’s a great idea!”
Mandel is fine with the response, despite some unfavorable replies. “I’m a troll magnet,” he added humorously. “Troll me. Love me.”
What did Mandel’s other American Idol judges think of Parent Jam’s performance? “It was endearing to watch. It was beautiful to watch the families dancing together,” Sofa Vergara said, adding, “It was the feel-good act of the night definitely.”
Vergara, on the other hand, echoed Mandel’s thoughts. “I don’t know if you could compete with the talent we have here tonight,” she said, “but whatever you were doing, you were doing it the right way.”
