The 2018 drama “Ben Is Back,” directed by Peter Hedges, is an enlightening and nuanced addiction film about dr*gs and how they affect society. The movie argues that dr*gs do not necessarily have to be illegal and tabloid-friendly, like cocaine and LSD, but might be relatively commonplace in today’s fractured society.
Without a father, Ben (Lucas Hedges) has developed an excessive dependence on prescription dr*gs. He has already attended treatment, and his return to the family of Dolly Burns (Julia Roberts), her second husband, Neal Beeby, and the family threatens them more than it provides them peace. Dolly wants to accept Ben, but he manages to cause problems.
If you want to experience Ben’s outcome, let us try it. SPOILERS FOLLOW.
Synopsis of the Drama Ben Is Back
The movie begins with symmetry. Snippets of a peaceful town are seen before a Christmas choir is zoomed in on. On her walk home from the church, Holly passes Ben standing on the porch with Liam, Lacey, and Ivy. Ben, who battles an Oxycontin addiction, has been in rehab for several months.
Even though Dolly, in particular, has faith in Ben, the atmosphere at home is strained following Ben’s homecoming. Neal, who has paid for Ben’s therapy sessions, and Ivy, Ben’s biological sister, who has known him since childhood, have opposing perspectives. Ben lacks self-assurance, and his sponsor advised him not to go home in the first place since there are too many triggers there.
Though his seemingly innocent song hides a neurotic outburst, Ben is genuine with Liam and Lacey, which is a bonus. Dolly becomes anxious and is increasingly troubled by Neal’s concerns since she wants to give Ben a chance.
Ben searches his old stockpile in the attic area with the aid of Liam and Lacey. Later, after arriving at a community session with Dolly, Ben runs with another addict who used to steal from him. The guards eject Dolly and Ben from the mall after they browse for clothes and discover Ben has dr*gs.

Ben fabricates that he stole the dr*g from the meeting girl, but he later admits that he found the bit in the attic room. When Ivy, Liam, and Lacey get home from the Christmas choir performance, they discover that the room has been broken.
Ben observes that there are no intruders but also that Ponce is absent. Dolly believes it is a good idea to accompany Ben when he sets off on foot to find Ponce. Ben embarks on the midnight expedition, searching for a remedy for the current unhappiness. Does Ben relapse? Let’s go to the end.

Ben is Back Ending: Is Ben Alive or Dead?
Ben and Dolly’s journey to find the family dog, Ponce, begins at Mr. Richmond’s history teacher’s home. Mr. Richmond could obtain all prescription medicines because his wife had cancer. He took advantage of his wife’s prescriptions to become a dr*g dealer, and Ben may owe him money.
Mr. Richmond, on the other hand, did not kidnap Ponce, forcing Holly and Ben to continue to the next house. They wind up at Maggie’s father’s house, where Ben’s ex-girlfriend died of a suspected dr*g overdose.
