Tomo Chan is a Girl Episode 9: Love Triangles and Heartbreak!

It’s official: Tomo-Chan is a female! Sparks flew between Tomo (Rie Takahashi) and Jun (Kenji Kamiyama) in Episode 8 of Season 1. (Kaito Ishikawa). Still unsure of how he feels about Tomo’s blossoming interest in him, Jun reluctantly accepts their budding romance.

Misuzu (voiced by Rina Hidaka) seemed to have trouble with the developing connection, wondering where she would belong, while he had concerns about strength and equality. By the end of the episode, she had overcome her fears and doubts, but it doesn’t mean she can’t alter in the future.

Tomo Chan is a Girl Episode 9 Recap

In the first scene, a young Misaki explains that he was a sad, lonely kid growing up. His mother, who refers to his cousin Carol as an “angel,” tells him that she has arrived.

This angers Misaki, but after giving her a closer look, he agrees that she is an angel. Misaki decides to train at the dojo managed by Tomo’s dad, the Aizawas since she wants to become more powerful.

He claims he can tell there’s more to Misaki than meets the eye, even though Misaki comes across as weak.

Because Tomo’s family seemed to believe in “training in the extreme firmly,” they had Misaki face Jun in his first match. Misaki loses consciousness after slicing Jun’s cheek with an errant blow.

Why Does Misaki Want to Get Stronger?

In the morning, Misaki finds herself in Tomo’s bed, immediately expressing regret for Jun’s seeming intensity.

She speculates that Carol may have influenced Misaki’s motivation to train hard, so she inquires about what initially sparked his desire.

Misaki says he had always wanted to support Carol when she needed him but dared to do so. Tomo assures Misaki that it does not matter how powerful he is or whether someone else is better than him at something, as there are many forms of strength.

How Does Misaki Feel About Tomo?

Carol asks Misaki how he feels about Tomo after he says he wants to be the guy Tomo can brag about to her friends at the dojo. He blushes and says he doesn’t know, but he probably looks up to her and wants to be as good as her eventually.

While Carol asks Jun to hang out, Misuzu listens in and wonders if she plans to intervene. Carol asks Misuzu whether she still has faith that things will work out between Jun and Tomo as she continues to advise her against it.

Carol and Jun Hang Out

After school, Jun and Carol often spend time together in the park. Because of Jun’s remark about Misuzu and Tomo, Carol tells Jun that she probably won’t see either of them again.

When Jun presses for an explanation, she confesses that she had spoken harshly to Misuzu earlier. She’s also cruel to Tomo in a way that isn’t reciprocated; Jun warns her not to misjudge Tomo but agrees to spend more time with Carol despite his misgivings.

Carol tells Jun in his room that she has feelings for him, but they aren’t going anywhere. When Jun asks what this has to do with him, she tells him that it is his fault and that she would like it if he accepted responsibility for his actions.

Why Does Carol Kiss Jun?

Carol leans in and kisses Jun’s cheek, ostensibly to “torture” him. When she straddles his waist, his panic increases.

While playing with him, she quips that Jun should do the same with Tomo and that if he’s not cautious, he’ll end up without her forever. After quickly pushing her away, Jun runs over to Tomo’s house.

The next day, Carol apologizes to Misuzu and reveals that her goal to make Misaki jealous appears to have worked, at least to some extent.

When Misuzu starts to get curious about Misaki’s feelings about Carol, he approaches him directly. It’s an admission he reluctantly makes, but he’s been in love with her for a while.

Why Won’t Misaki Tell Carol His True Feelings?

Misuzu already knew Misaki had a thing for Carol, so she wasn’t taken aback by the news. As an alternative, she questions why he refuses to acknowledge her sentiments and claims to have none.

Misaki admits that Carol’s strength makes her seem menacing to him. Because of his belief that their connection has been warped by his inability to see her vulnerability, Misuzu has agreed to attempt to change that.

Misuzu tells a fib to Carol to get her to open up about her insecurities and give herself a better shot with Misuzu. Carol seems outraged as she accuses Misuzu of lying as she walks out of school, but we do not witness her entire reaction.

Tomo-chan is a Girl Season 1 Episode 9 Ending Explained

Misaki worries about Carol after hearing that she has left and goes to her house to see whether she is okay, only to find her sobbing.

He apologizes, realizing he’s treated her like a divinity instead of a typical teenager. Carol interrupts him before he can finish.

He says he and Misuzu had a misunderstanding and that Misuzu was trying to help by pushing him. When Carol still doesn’t get it, he comes clean and tells her he loves her.

The response comes from Carol, who states that she has no idea why or when it started but always has.

Carol expresses gratitude to Misuzu for her assistance the following day in class. This program improves as the season progresses and more is revealed about the characters.

They appear to be one-dimensional caricatures or clichés but are more nuanced than I would have guessed from a high school romantic comedy.

To me, that’s a large part of what makes the program so compelling; it takes a relatively straightforward premise and makes it feel epic and overwhelming.

You’ll experience the same heightened feelings, ongoing confusion, and a sense that these relationships are everything, just as you did when you had a crush in high school.

This week’s episode spotlighted Carol, elevating her from comic relief to a more substantial role. I enjoyed the little tension between Carol and Misaki because Tomo and Jun were the “main” coupling.

However, I enjoyed the speed with which their issues were settled. Including a pair with some experience will help Tomo and Jun gain perspective, and I think it will also offer a new and humorous aspect to the group.

There seems to be an underlying theme of strength in this show, and I’m crossing my fingers that Jun will get the motivation he needs when he realizes that power may take many forms.
