Three new Star Wars feature films will be released in theaters during Star Wars Celebration Europe at the ExCel Center in London, according to a statement from Lucasfilm today. The movie was announced during the Lucasfilm Studio Showcase Panel to a thunderous response from the thousands present at the Celebration Stage.
The three new movies will take place at various points in the Star Wars timeline, with Dave Filoni covering the New Republic vs. the Imperial Remnants in a plot that takes place between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, and James Mangold covering an era that occurred 25,000 years before the events of the saga.
The revelation that Daisy Ridley would be reprising her role as Rey in a new film directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, as a Jedi Master reorganizing the new Jedi Order, may have been the most exciting.
Since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, these movies are the first major motion pictures set in the Star Wars universe. After that film’s underwhelming critical and commercial reception, Disney and Lucasfilm committed themselves to create episodic live-action television for the Disney+ streaming service.
The Mandalorian, along with the acclaimed Andor, is Disney’s crown jewel for their streaming service, and it was received with a mixture of positive and negative reviews.
While The Book of Boba Fett wasn’t quite as well-liked as those before it, Ewan McGregor’s comeback as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the series under the same name was.

The Acolyte, which is set in the High Republic era and will tell a Star Wars story from the villains’ perspective, is one of the new Star Wars series that Disney is developing and will likely release shortly.
Yet, the Star Wars sequel trilogy did turn out to be a wise option for Disney after they paid over $4 billion to acquire Lucasfilm. The Force Awakens, which debuted in 2015 and is presently the fifth-highest-grossing movie of all time, featured Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher reprising their roles from the first trilogy.

The sequels’ nearly $4.5 billion global box office earnings more than covered the cost of purchasing the business from the franchise’s originator, George Lucas.
Eleven full-length movies were released between 1977 and 2019 that are situated in the Star Wars universe. The Skywalker Saga, which featured Luke Skywalker and his father Anakin, who also doubled as the evil Darth Vader, was the subject of nine movies.
They inspired the two spin-offs Solo and Rogue One, the former detailing the smuggler Han Solo’s early years and his beginnings and the latter a heist film centered on the theft of the Death Star schematics that gave rise to the television series Andor.
