Ramit Sethi, a financial planner, and the author is taking his knowledge on the road in an unscripted series for Netflix based on his 2009 New York Times bestseller “I Will Teach You to Be Rich.”
Sethi goes on a six-week trip on the show to help people in New York and California who are having trouble managing their money by giving them advice on paying off debt, saving money, and making a budget.
Ramit’s advice isn’t always the same as what people usually say. He won’t tell you to stop drinking your fancy coffee. He tells people to “spend extravagantly on the things you love, as long as you cut costs mercilessly on the things you don’t,” and to “buy all the lattes you want.”
In the new show, he gives advice on things like how to use psychology to not be afraid of spending money by putting your priorities first, and he doesn’t try to talk people out of big purchases like weddings.
“Traditional advice about money is to say ‘no’ to things like lattes, holidays, and fun. “I think money is about saying YES to a Rich Life,” Sethi told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement. “I’m excited to put How to Get Rich on Netflix so I can share my ideas about how to save more, invest more, and spend more on the things you love with a wider audience.”

Ramit Sethi’s Journey to Success
Ramit Sethi grew up in California in a middle-class home. His money journey started when he came up with a plan to apply for more than 60 scholarships so that he could go to college and graduate school at Stanford University.
But instead of putting his first scholarship check toward his fees at Stanford, he put it in the stock market and lost half of it. The loss made him want to study technology and psychology and learn more about how money worked.
In 2004, while he was still a student at Stanford, he started the website iwillteachyoutoberich.com to share what he had learned. Business Insider says that Sethi’s programs for teaching people about money have helped thousands of people start their own companies.
In 2019, Sethi published the second edition of his book, which includes a 6-week program on how people can better handle their money. He also has a podcast called “I Will Teach You to Be Rich.” Sethi has also written for the business magazine Entrepreneur.
