In 1990, Boehner ran against Buz Lukens, a sitting congressman facing criticism for having s*xual contact with a juvenile. Despite not having much name recognition and being vastly outspent, Boehner won the primary with 49 percent of the vote.
He defeated Greg Jolivette, a Democrat, in the November election. Boehner won 12 times with a wide margin for re-election to Congress. He held this position from that year until 2006, in this period. Boehner and Senator Ted Kennedy wrote the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, and President Bush signed it into law in 2002. Republicans won the majority of House seats in the 2010 midterm elections.
In November 2010, all of the candidates for speaker of the House agreed on Boehner. On January 5, 2011, outgoing Speaker Nancy Pelosi handed him the gavel.
Boehner served as the majority and minority floor leader for the Republicans, making him the first Speaker from Ohio since 1931. In January 2013, he narrowly won re-election as Speaker of the House with 220 votes (214 were needed to win).
The Republican Party’s 2016 presidential nominee, Donald Trump, has the backing of Boehner. However, a Boehner representative indicated in August 2020 that the speaker would not support Trump or Joe Biden. He would prefer to put himself on fire than participate in the election.
I see nothing here. After a crowd of Trump supporters invaded the Capitol on January 6, 2021, killing four people, Boehner urged Republicans to “awaken,” saying: “The invasion of our Capitol by a mob, incited by lies from some entrusted with power, is a disgrace to all who sacrificed to build our Republic.”
After it was confirmed that Joe Biden had won the 2020 presidential election, he later congratulated him. At the time, he was cited as saying that Ted Cruz was “a reckless asshole who thinks he is smarter than everyone else” and that he thought Trump ought to step down.

Boehner released “On the House: A Washington Memoir” in April 2021. It reveals the factors that led to his resignation, such as the Tea Party and the far-right organization Freedom Caucus, which subsequently gave rise to Trumpism.
He further insults Cruz and Trump with Sean Hannity, Michele Bachmann, and Rush Limbaugh. Boehner acknowledged in the book that he did, in fact, support Trump in the 2020 election, despite his severe criticism.
