When is the “Are You There God” Trailer Released?
The first trailer of Are You There God? was unveiled on Thursday by Lionsgate. Opening the trailer, we see Margaret Simon (Abby Ryder Fortson) and her parents packing up to relocate from the city to the suburbs of New Jersey. Margaret, a young girl of 11 is entering a new phase of her life and despite her lack of religious convictions, she frequently confides in God.
Margaret and her new friends in sixth grade deal with the awkwardness of entering adolescence. Women experience discomfort as they learn about their changing bodies, shop for bras with their mothers and purchase sanitary towels in front of a male cashier.

Is “Are You There God” Based on a Novel?
Blume told Jenna Bush Hager at a New York City screening of the film on Wednesday that Are You There God? Among her novels, “It’s Me, Margaret” was the most introspective. “In only six weeks, she wrote a complete draught of the novel”, she said. The words it just spilled out came easily to Blume.
The novel was published in 1970 and immediately became a bestseller but it was challenged in some libraries and school districts due to its explicit depiction of menstruation and its negative portrayal of some Christian characters for which it ultimately won several awards.

Despite the widespread appeal of “Are You There God? Blume stated her reservations about the film adaptation of It’s Me, Margaret. In the split second before saying yes, I told my movie agent, “You can try to sell some of these books but not Margaret. It’s a definite no, Margaret,” she exclaimed.
The director of the coming-of-age drama “The Edge of Seventeen” Fremon Craig wrote an eloquent and passionate letter to Blume that ultimately swayed her decision.
