Wednesday, two JetBlue planes ran into each other on a taxiway at a New York airport. This was the second strange thing to happen there in the past few days. As it was leaving the gate, an airplane going to Puerto Rico hit the tail of a plane that was already there.
No one was hurt, and when the plane got back to the gate, the passengers got on a different plane. JetBlue said in a statement that flight 1603 “came into light contact with a parked, unoccupied aircraft.”
“Safety is JetBlue’s first priority, and both aircraft involved will be taken out of service for inspection and the incident will be investigated,” it said.

Officials from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have started to look into what happened. One plane was about to take off, and the other was crossing the same runway. A crash almost happened until an air traffic controller saw the two planes.
“Delta 1943, cancel take-off clearance! Delta 1943, cancel the take-off clearance!,” a website that posts flight communications called LiveATC recorded what the controller said. When the Delta plane stopped, the planes were about 1,000 feet (300 meters) apart.

Delta Air Lines said in a statement that it would help with a probe into what happened. The other plane was run by American Airlines, which did not make a statement and sent questions to the FAA.
