In preparation for his next feature, “Roadhouse,” Jake Gyllenhaal shot scenes at two of Las Vegas’s most renowned combat sports venues.
In the movie Roadhouse, which centers on an ex-UFC athlete who finds up working at a roadhouse in the Florida Keys, the Hollywood actor, who has been in films including Donnie Darko, Brokeback Mountain, and End of Watch, plays Elwood Dalton.
On Friday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Gyllenhaal broke into a UFC weigh-in where Insider and other media were invited to film a scene where his character Dalton made weight. Gyllenhaal appeared toned when being weighed.
Saturday’s UFC 285 event at the T-Mobile Arena was postponed for roughly 30 minutes during the preliminary portion of the show so that the Roadhouse video crew could get footage for Dalton’s early MMA career.

Gyllenhaal’s Dalton had extensive event treatment in the scenes filmed in front of a live audience while Bruce Buffer presented him to the audience.
Following the start of the match, Dalton pummelled his opponent senselessly before the referee had to intervene and stop the beating.

Conor McGregor also appears in Roadhouse. Thus, the UFC’s influence on the movie is not limited to the fight sequences.
The former UFC champion at two weight classes from Ireland is now shooting The Ultimate Fighter, an MMA reality TV series, alongside lightweight opponent Michael Chandler.
The major UFC event that pits McGregor vs. Chandler at a show later this year, maybe as early as September, will culminate this season of The Ultimate Fighter.
