Residents and schools in the central and eastern parts of Sioux Falls were affected by a power outage Thursday morning.
The Sioux Falls School District said that kids would stay in their classrooms until they heard from Xcel Energy about how long it would take to fix the problem. At 10:12 a.m., the SFSD said that power had been restored to schools that had lost it and that the school day would go on as usual.

The outage affected up to 8,500 people, according to Xcel’s website, and it lasted for 28 minutes.
Steve Kolbeck from Xcel Energy told KELOLAND News that broken equipment and trash on a power line were to blame for the blackout.
