Bruce Campbell is a well-known actor and director. He is best known for playing Ash Williams in the “Evil Dead” series. With a new “Evil Dead” movie in the works, many fans are wondering if Campbell will play his famous character again. So, you’re asking, “Is Bruce Campbell going to be in ‘Evil Dead 2023’?” Let’s find out!
Is Bruce Campbell in Evil Dead 2023?
Does Bruce Campbell’s Ash Williams, the protagonist of the Evil Dead franchise, appear in Evil Dead Rise despite following a fresh cast of characters? After surviving countless encounters with the demonic Deadites from the Evil Dead film series, Ash Williams has established himself as one of the most recognizable horror characters of all time.
But unlike Evil Dead (2013), the 2023 solo sequel directed by Lee Cronin doesn’t center on Bruce Campbell’s Ash Williams. Instead, Evil Dead Rise centers on a new family who stumbles into the Book of the Dead in their Los Angeles apartment complex, leading them into a bloody, horrifying conflict.
The original four Evil Dead films—1981’s The Evil Dead, 1987’s Evil Dead II, 1992’s Army of Darkness, and 2013’s Evil Dead—as well as the Starz television series Ash vs. Evil Dead—have Ash in them, making him as much of a part of the franchise as Sam Raimi.
Ash Williams didn’t have a major role in Evil Dead (2013)’s grisly plot, but he did make an appearance in a brief post-credits sequence and say his catchphrase, “Groovy.” Audiences may be wondering if Bruce Campbell will play Ash Williams in Evil Dead Rise given how significant he is to the franchise’s overall mythos.

Bruce Campbell is in Evil Dead Rise, but is He Playing Ash Williams?
No Ash Williams and no cabin in the Woods are two significant franchise firsts in Evil Dead Rise. Bruce Campbell does perform a clandestine part in Evil Dead Rise, although he is not visible on screen and is not confirmed to be Ash Williams. Campbell has a brief cameo appearance on a record that Dan discovers in Evil Dead Rise, although the audience won’t hear him repeat Ash’s “Groovy” phrase.
Campbell had previously stated that Ash Williams will be retiring, but Cronin’s tease regarding the alleged true identity of the “priest” raises the possibility that the iconic figure may engage in some more groovy combat with Deadites in the future.
Even if Campbell is Ash Williams in Evil Dead Rise, a brief voice recording devoid of his catchphrases or personality won’t be enough to appease ardent Evil Dead fans who have been waiting patiently for a real Ash return. Nevertheless, Evil Dead Rise provides further Bruce Campbell material; according to Cronin, a crunching sound needed for the eye scene was created by recording Campbell “eating an apple furiously.”
How Ash Williams Can Return in Evil Dead 6?
Warner Bros. Discovery hasn’t yet announced Evil Dead 6, but the success of Cronin’s follow-up implies a sixth film is on the way. There are still methods for Bruce Campbell to physically return to his part as Ash Williams for a sequel even though Ash Williams isn’t directly related to the plot of Evil Dead Rise.
Ash, Mia, and Beth might team up in Evil Dead 6 to fight the Deadites and try to permanently destroy the Book of the Dead, given that there have been rumors of an Ash crossover with Mia from Evil Dead (2013). The conclusion of Evil Dead Rise leaves a lot open for future films in the series to explore the lore, and Ash would make the ideal legacy figure for Beth to work with while piecing everything together.
While Beth might intentionally seek Ash out to learn more about the Book of the Dead and earlier Deadite attacks, given that the Deadite problem is becoming more widespread, Ash might end up finding Beth instead. Without Ash Williams, the Evil Dead series may never truly come to an end, thus fans are quite hopeful that Bruce Campbell will make an appearance in Evil Dead 6.
