The Squirrel and Jackalope’s Identities Are Revealed in ‘The Masked Singer’

The actor/comedian Malin Akerman and social media personality Lele Pons were both revealed to be squirrel and jackalope on Wednesday’s episode of “The Masked Singer,” respectively. Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg chose Malin Akerman appropriately for Squirrel. Heather Graham was guessed by Robin Thicke. Ken Jeong mistook Katherine Heigl for the person. She chose Kate Hudson and Nicole Scherzinger. Jennifer Nettles, a guest panelist, mentioned Anne Hathaway.

As for Jackalope, Scherzinger recognized Lele Pons right away, and Thicke concurred. Jenna Ortega, according to McCarthy Wahlberg. Selena Gomez went with Jeong. Choosing Camilla Cabello was Nettles.

The episode of “Sesame Street” began with Elmo singing “What’s The Name of That Song” (or in this case, “Show”) before Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Grover, the Count, and other characters sang “Dynamite” by BTS. Yes, this program just keeps becoming more bizarre! (I mean, he was referred to as “Father to Many Sesame Street Fans” by the chryon introducing host Nick Cannon. It never ceases to amaze me how heavily “The Masked Singer” emphasizes Cannon’s parenting.)

Damar Hamlin, a player for the Buffalo Bills, visited the set of this episode as well, as had been hinted at earlier through news reports. Just a few weeks after losing consciousness on the field during a game on January 2, Hamlin recorded the appearance. He is presented by his younger brother Damir in the episode.

About his appearance, Hamlin stated, “My brother, that’s my universe. “I prioritize my family. Also, he enjoys “Sesame Street” more than most things. Thus, we had to arrive tonight. Singer Jennifer Nettles, host of Fox’s “Farmer Wants a Wife,” which airs immediately after “The Masked Singer,” was also present as a guest panelist.

The “Champion of Masked Singer” formula has been used on “The Masked Singer” once more, much like it did last season. Three celebrities in costumes will perform in each show, but only one will be chosen as the winner and advance to the following week’s competition. Three finalists from each round advance to the semi-finals.

The top two singers will compete in a “battle royale” after one contestant is revealed midway through the episode. It was left to Jackalope and Fairy to duke it out to the tune of “On Top of the World” by Imagine Dragons after Akerman as Squirrel was revealed as the first disguise. Jackalope lost the popular vote and was revealed to be Pons. Next week’s episode will be The Fairy’s next stop.

The Masked Singer shared a tweet: Which mask do you wanna see stay on #TheMaskedSinger stage?

“Ding Dong Keep It On” is brand-new for this season. The panelists will have the chance to save a performer from impending elimination in the competition’s new twist, but the bell can only be struck three times during the first three rounds. The three singers will then compete in a battle to reenter the competition on a special edition. Wednesday saw no ringing of the bell.

The ninth season of “The Masked Singer” will include 21 participants, among them “The Mustang,” “The Axolotl,” “The California Roll,” “The Dandelion,” “The Moose,” “The Gargoyle,” “The Jackalope,” “The Doll,” “The Arctic Bear,” “The Night Owl,” “The Rock Lobster,” “The Gnome,” and more to be revealed. The costume designer for this season is Tim Chappel.

The celebs revealed this season include Lele Pons as the Jackalope, Malin Akerman as the Squirrel, Debbie Gibson as the Night Owl, Howie Mandel as the Rock Lobster, Sara Evans as the Mustang, and Dick Van Dyke as the Gnome.

The Season 9 competitors have “boasted a combined 28 Emmy nominations, six Grammy wins, 10 gold albums, four Golden Globe nominations, five medals, 26 books, two Tony Award nominations, five Lifetime Achievement Awards, four stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a combined 95,231,000 records sold.” Fresh themed episodes with titles like “ABBA,” “New York,” “DC Superheroes,” “Sesame Street,” “80s Night,” “Movie Night,” and others will debut in season nine.

Fairy and Jackalope make their stage debut in The Masked Singer Season 9 Episode 5 for Sesame Street Night. Sesame Street icons including Big Bird, Cookie Monster, Oscar the Grouch, and Elmo all make an appearance alongside the new masks in the episode previews.

Also, the narration in the promo claims that the costumes have “voices bigger than Big Bird,” so there’s a decent potential that viewers may witness some incredible vocal performances in this episode. Fairy is one of the performers in episode 5 who performs while disguised.

What about Fairy? She can be seen performing “You’re No Good” by Linda Ronstadt in a brief preview clip, and followers on Instagram speculate that she might be Jordin Sparks, the Season 6 winner of American Idol.

The youngest winner of American Idol in the program’s history, Sparks was only 17 when she took home the title in 2007. She afterward began to perform in Broadway plays and record a number of popular albums. In 2021, Sparks participated in The Masked Singer as Exotic Bird and finished in fifth place.
