Next up from Stardew Valley developer Eric Barone comes the eerie puzzle platformer Haunted Chocolatier. Players are anticipating the game’s release date because they want to see what Barone has in store for them this time.
The game has a mix of role-playing and simulation elements, and it has some parallels to its predecessor. Yet Haunted Chocolatier has a different purpose than farming; instead, they sell “magical haunted ghost chocolate.” Gameplay, plot, and more will all be discussed in an in-depth look at the game’s development.
Haunted Chocolatier Release Date
Haunted Chocolatier has been under development for a longer period than fans had hoped, and there is currently no word on when it will be released.
In a December 2022 interview with Screen Rant, Barone provided the most recent information about the development of the game. The conversation primarily discussed Barone’s work on a music video for the indie-pop band Alvvays’s song “Many Mirrors,” although there were also brief discussions of Stardew Valley and the latest developments with Haunted Chocolatier. See what Barone had to say about his work on Haunted Chocolatier:
“It’s going well, but it’s a big game. I have a big, ambitious vision for it. It’s a little bit daunting, the amount of work that it’s going to be. But Stardew Valley took me four and a half years; I’ve been working on Haunted Chocolatier for about a year and a half or maybe two years now. I announced it a little bit over a year ago, but it’s still gonna be a while. But I think it’s going good. So far. There’s a lot of good things so far.”
It’s possible that fans won’t get to enjoy Haunted Chocolatier until 2025 at the earliest if the development process is as drawn out as it was for Stardew Valley.

Haunted Chocolatier Story
In Haunted Chocolatier, you take on the role of a chocolatier who runs a shop out of a haunted castle, where you must procure uncommon materials to make a wide variety of chocolates to sell. Compared to Stardew Valley, there appears to be a greater emphasis on chocolate.
“Chocolate represents that which is delightful. The haunted castle represents the allure of the unknown. The ghosts represent the imprint of the past. All of these things are important. However, don’t think for a moment that, because this game features ghosts in a haunted castle, it is an evil or negative game,” the developer wrote in the post announcing the game.
“On the contrary, I intend for this game to be positive, uplifting and life-affirming. However, if Stardew Valley mostly channeled the energy of the sun, Haunted Chocolatier channels the energy of the moon. Both are vital.”
Barone has not yet decided “how deep the connection will be exactly,” but Stardew Valley will be referenced in Haunted Chocolatier. Visit the tweet given to you below for further details.
1) 1.6, yes. But it's mostly a modding-focused update (makes modders lives easier). There will be some new content but it won't be huge. 1.7? Who knows.
2) Yes, but I haven't decided how deep the connection will be exactly. I want Haunted Chocolatier to have its own identity— ConcernedApe (@ConcernedApe) June 23, 2022
Haunted Chocolatier Gameplay
Gameplay in Haunted Chocolatier will revolve around standard features like relocating to a new town, mingling with the locals, and starting a new career path. “The core gameplay and theming are quite a bit different,” the creator claims. “Haunted Chocolatier is more of an action RPG compared to Stardew Valley. And instead of a farm being the focal point of your endeavors, it’s a chocolate shop.”
Those who played ConcernedApe’s last game will recognize the pixel graphic style used in the gameplay trailer below, which displays some of the game’s exploration, crafting, gathering, and combat. A multiplayer mode is not planned at this time.
The developer claims that “almost everything” in Haunted Chocolatier was created from scratch. With a greater emphasis on battle than its predecessors, this game lets you utilize shields to block strikes and occasionally stun your opponent, giving you a brief window of opportunity to counterattack.
But, this tactic isn’t your only option, as there will be a variety of off-hand items available to suit a variety of play styles.
Haunted Chocolatier System Requirements
The minimum and recommended specifications for playing Haunted Chocolatier have not yet been announced. We don’t anticipate it needing state-of-the-art hardware due to its pixel art aesthetics, though we’ll know for sure when release day approaches.

When and where can You get Haunted Chocolatier?
Currently, a thick layer of spectral chocolate covers up the price tag at Haunted Chocolatier. The developer has confirmed that the game is coming to PC but has “every intention of bringing it to the other major platforms as well.”
Haunted Chocolatier Trailer
Only a brief tease of Haunted Chocolatier was shown off in an early gameplay video that came out in October of 2021. The video depicts daily life in a quaint town, with some action as a protagonist fights for ingredients in the wilderness, and the production of chocolate in a factory.
