This year, The Walking Dead Universe returns to New York with the release of Dead City. The next exciting chapter in Maggie and Negan’s lives is detailed here.
The TV adaptation of The Walking Dead may have ended, but that wasn’t the end of the story in the TWD Universe. After eleven seasons on AMC, the main program ended in November 2022, but that was just the close of the first act in this universe.
This year, the world of The Walking Dead will grow with three new spinoffs in addition to Fear The Walking Dead. The Walking Dead veterans Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan will reprise their roles as Maggie Rhee and Negan, respectively, in the first of these, titled The Walking Dead: Dead City (originally titled Isle of the Dead). With the premiere of the program soon approaching, here is all the information you’ll require.

The Walking Dead: Dead City Release Date
After the midseason finale of Fear The Walking Dead on Sunday, June 18 at 10 p.m. ET, AMC and AMC+ will premiere The Walking Dead: Dead City. After that, it will air for five weeks at 9 p.m. ET.
After being announced for an April release at New York Comic-Con alongside the first photographs from the series, the premiere date has been pushed back to June, according to a new update from the cable network. The June release date was announced during WonderCon in March.
Since it was the first of the new spinoffs to film, its release date in 2023 has always been set in stone, but a teaser for what’s to come from the TWD Universe played following the series finale of The Walking Dead, further solidifying the date.

The Walking Dead: Dead City Synopsis
The events of The Walking Dead: Dead City will take place after the events of the series finale, and yes, that does include the time jump of one year mentioned at the end of the episode. While it’s safe to assume that Negan has left all of the survivor communities, it appears that Maggie is still present, spending time in all three of them. They will run into each other again in New York City.
AMC has released the official synopsis, and it appears to suggest there will be another time jump. Here it is for your perusal:
Years have passed since we last saw Maggie and Negan and they must now form a tenuous alliance in order to accomplish a dangerous mission. Maggie and Negan journey to the island of Manhattan, which, having been isolated since the beginning of the walker apocalypse, has developed its own unique threats.
While in the city, Maggie and Negan encounter native New Yorkers, evade a marshal with a troubled past, and hunt down a notorious killer. But as the pair moves deeper into the gritty depths of the walker-infested city, it becomes apparent that the traumas of their tumultuous past may prove just as great a threat as the dangers of the present.
