The reports about Texas’ favorite Dazed and Confused star signing on for a spinoff series of the country’s hottest neo-Western drama appeared to be true. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmation from Chris McCarthy, CEO of Paramount Media Networks, that Matthew McConaughey, a Texas native, will feature in a Yellowstone spinoff.
In February, rumors started to circulate that the Dallas Buyers Club and True Detective star was in negotiations for a spinoff that would debut on Paramount Network before being streamed exclusively on Paramount+. The spinoff is one of ten ideas McCarthey and Yellowstone creator Tye Sheridan are working on, the Hollywood Reporter was informed by him.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the primary show has recently been in some upheaval as a result of rumors that its star, Kevin Costner, has refused to participate in the current season due to scheduling difficulties with another Western he is filming called Horizon.
The show “wouldn’t be what it is today without Kevin, and we hope that that stays for a long time to come,” McCarthy told the Hollywood Reporter.
Yet based on the fact that Costner, Sheridan, and the main cast skipped a panel at the biggest TV series festival in the country, PaleyFest, this past Saturday, it looks that things may still be tense among the Yellowstone cast and crew.
Instead, a Paramount executive and other cast members, including Josh Lucas, who plays a younger John Dutton, presided over the panel. As the sudden change was revealed during the panel, the audience audibly gasped and some shouted, “Where are they?!” “scheduling conflicts.” are apparently to blame for the shift.
