Peaches Christ shared a tweet on Twitter:
“I am appalled and shocked to tell you this news. Please be patient with me if I don’t have all the answers right now; I’m currently experiencing a nightmare. I went to pick up my good friend Heklina this morning in London, UK, where we are both costarring in a Mommie Queerest performance, and I found her dead,” Peaches Christ stated in a message on social media. Heklina’s passing was also confirmed by the Soho Theatre, which issued the following statement:
“Our sympathies are with Peaches, Mommie Queerest company, Heklina’s family, friends, and their larger community.”
The performer, who was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, first lived in Iceland before relocating to San Francisco. The volcano Hekla is where the term Heklina comes from.
